McNeil Wines was founded in 2002 as a Wholesale Broker of small production, boutique wines. In addition to Northern California distribution, McNeil Wines nationally represents a small number of clients from our local portfolio. It is our goal and mission to keep our clients connected with local accounts, market trends, and all aspects of distribution.
Patrick McNeil, Northern California Sales Manager: My Grandfather Joe McNeil was a quirky artist from San Francisco who painted everything from weekly letter-filled envelopes in his requited efforts to woo my Grandmother Ellen, to wine labels for the old Greystone winery, to oil paintings of family country scenes in Marin County and a Stag’s Leap Winery in the early 1970’s. My Father, Joe McNeil, had partnered in the purchase of this winery in 1970, and our family enjoyed our early days in the sparsely populated Napa Valley. The history of these storied locales and the people who made them possible kept drawing me back to the Napa Valley. My college times at U.C. Davis brought me even closer to the wine experience and made me realize that if all these people are making it, then someone has to sell it. Right? I was never a very good chemistry patient. Student. Broke, out of college and excuses, I decided to follow my father’s never-wrong advice and pick up a phone book. My first cold-calling experience yielded a “Get out there and see what you can do, Kid” sales position with an Italian distributor, importer, and producer by the name of Pellegrini. In 1998, I joined the Chambers and Chambers team in San Francisco as the Corporate Merchandiser to Cost Plus, Beverages and More!, and other retail chains. I returned to broad market sales in Marin County for Chambers and Chambers until my chance to work at a famous Napa Valley Winery way up on a hill came in the form of Cain Vineyard and Winery. I assumed the role of the California Regional Sales Manager until early 2002, when I recognized the growing sales and marketing needs of new wineries. It was then that I abandoned all sense of reason, salary, and job security in order to sell wine as an independent broker in Northern California. I continue to use the phone book on a regular basis.
Ashley King, National Sales Manager: comes to us with over 15 years corporate sales experience, the last 9 of which have been spent selling to Fortune 1000 companies nationwide. She has traveled an average of 170 days a year to nearly every state in the country. In this prior career, Ashley graduated quickly from Inside Sales to the Vice President of Sales, always exceeded every quota, and enjoyed a five year run as Sales Person of the Year.
A love of wine, family ties to the wine industry and a desire to leave the corporate world to work with family has brought her to McNeil Wines.
Her sales and travel experience, uber-organizational talents, genuine affability, and pure alacrity combine to make her the perfect choice for McNeil Wines operations, nationally and locally.
